This was my first time picking the Beatlesremixer's song of the month challenge. There haven't been a lot of early Beatles tracks chosen for remixes, so I chose one of my favorite early Beatles songs If I Fell.

Enjoy

Gabriel

One of my favourites Ever. But rather tricky, more than a dozen chords or so.....

Deja Vu :o I was just thinking of this song as a challenge along with "No Reply" as a second choice bumping into each other through the corridors of my mind. Good Luck to all :D

I avoided the mutiple chords problem by taking the percussive route.
Features beats and excerpts from:-
Sgt Pepper (and Reprise), Strawberry Fields Forever, and Marvin Gaye's "I Heard It Through The Grapevine".

Made a brave attempt to fit in as many chord changes as I could...
You need to allow a little 'artistic freedom' with this track, interersted if anyone can accomodate more of If I fell in a mash-up....

very clever, no chord clashes, nice atmosphere.

Is that Patty Boyd in the picture ?

yeah, that's Pattie.....and a few studio crew.

Could you just link to www.bdj.podomatic.com in future?
The links to the individual posts get abbreviated by the forum for some reason and never work properly.....try them yourself!

When i saw your pic i thought you'd used the real "monster mash"

The track doesn't quite work for me though, the first couple of verses seem fine...inspired even!
But then there's a section where the Fabs seem to be going "up" while the backing is going "down"...i'm no musician and my terminology may be wrong, i just go by ear!...i tried to listen a few times to see if it grew on me...but each time i had to press stop! I think if you made a backing of the main riff it would work fine cos there seem to be no clashes at all there....nicely pitched. A brave try,

Geoff Emerick is the guy who turns his back to us....

Thought I fixed this link, but no problem to use the general link. Funny thing is that it looks OK on my screen when I type the message, but then it appears wrong after I Submit.

I also think the first 30 sec or so work best; spent quite some time on the intro, to get the lead guitar riff in somehow. Then it really falls togeth well when the verse starts. Couldn't do much with the 'middle-eight'. Both songs go off in different angles, I changed the picth a bit, but is still quite clashy. I could delete the middle-eight altogether, but that would be awkward too. I'll think about your suggestion and see if it could work.

I hate to say it since I love your work so much, but that didn't work for me. Many of the notes that the Beatles sing just do not match to me, and fall flat. Actually, this makes me worried on me coming up with anything. The notes they sing, matching up to particular music, might be very very difficult for me.

Yes, its a great song/melody, but it uses so many notes/chords.
The Beatles are infamous for their use of unusual time signatures and chords.

Try using a cover version....less complications ;)

For anyone who may have not heard this or have it at your disposal while working on this month's challenge, below is a link to download a very fragile sounding Lennon demoing this song, although the recording sounds mono and very thin it reminds me of how the tune " My Mummys Dead" on Lennon's "Plastic Ono Band" was recorded the approach being very childlike, intimate and through a shoebox

This worked beautifully, very "Within You Without You" perhaps try using the tabla opening from that song as a percussive backing, just a thought .... thanks for sharing :) and your right in saying a cover version maybe the way to go in solving the chord dilemma :D

Perhaps Clapton's "Let It Rain" would have been a alternative choice to use rather than "Layla" of course both are totally different from "If I Fell" but "Let It Rain" has a lesser edge to isolate that a hard rocker like "Layla" still never give up those experiments because they'll always lead to other brave solutions

The Clapton mash-up has some harmonic issues  , but - as discussed in this thread - this is almost unavoidable with If I Fell. There's just nothing like it.

So switched modes completely for this one. Did not go for a cover, but produced my own arrangement, since the Imagine track appeared to work well. This time, carefully avoided the 'BDJ Wall of Sound' (I hope); it is surprisingly easy to fall into the trap of mixing too many instruments. Keep it simple in terms of number of instruments, but keep it 'intersting' in terms of what each instrument does.

Like it or not, there's not a false note in thise one  :

I fixed your post. Use the URL function like the quote function when you post. It should look like:

Imagine that George had fallen in love with India during A Hard Day's Night rather than Help!
...contains a backing made from many samples, including some from The Inner Light, and Tomorrow Never Knows.

Not really, the tempo was detemined by the percussive samples i opened first...no other reason!
i did think about inserting an instrumental section in the middle somewhere.....i may still do that for a WTF edition.
