It's about time we had an early Beatles song for the challenge.
So what better than The Beatles' first single......Love Me Do.
Go to it!

The Beatles' non-#1 singles in the UK
Love Me Do #17
Please Please Me #2
Strawberry Fields Forever/Penny Lane #2
Something/Come Together #4
Let It Be #2
...you could also include the Hamburg recordings of My Bonnie and Aint She Sweet (1964)...but they were not sanctioned by the Fabs.

and after the split....
Back In The U.S.S.R. #19 (1976)
Yesterday #8 (1976)
Sgt Peppers Lonely Heart Club Band/With A Little Help #63 (1978)
Beatles Movie Medley #10 (1982)
Baby It's You #7 (1994)
Free As A Bird #2 (1995)
Real Love #4 (1996)
....you could also include the Hamurg recording of Twist And Shout (1977)...but that wasn't sanctioned by the Fabs either.

The other 17 singles all hit #1.

Hmmm, the early recordings can be tough to get decent extractions. is there a good instrumental or pella for this?

OK, I should have included, "whitout looking it up". I was thinking of Penny Lane/strawberry Fields.

I'm surpised about Please Please Me not reaching No.1 Matter of debate, I suppose. England's Record Retailer ranked it #2, but all other major record charts -- the BBC, Disc Weekly, Melody Maker, NME, and Record Mirror -- considered it to be the Number One hit that week.

Wow! One of the all time greats! Even if it did not make it to number one, I certainly wore out my first 45" single! Let the mouth organs duel to the finish!

How many are aware that lennon was a bit of a klepto that day.
the makers of that mouth organ should ask for royalties.

thanks, but i disagree about the extra drums obviously.....so much so that i kept them in this closely related track....Revolutuion Me Do. http://mp3j.synthasite.com/

I have re-done the ObLaDi track....but i won't bother you to re-download it,
i'll stick the updated version in the next WTF....(I repitched the vocals a touch).

Ummm nice take, wondering if the slower version would have mashed a bit better, as the 45 version seemed a bit rushed

getting a clean vocal from the slower LP version is impossible though!

well, i will also disagree with crea, the extra drums kind of make the track. very cool! lyrics worked well. it was the obladi oblada chorus that sounded a little awkward, but that's ok! Good stuff!

yeah, great idea, but the vocals do sound kind of like they are too fast for the music. The "alrights" tho are great! and lovin the drum track!

Is there anyway to slow the vocals that you've already extracted? Much like what Phil Spector did with Across The Universe (Wildlife Version) on the Let It Be album

But if they were slower, they wouldn't match the meter of Love Me Do.
You could slow them right down to half the tempo i suppose, but that would sound even weirder, and would probably put you to sleep!

Here's how it would sound with John's Revolution vocals slowed to half the speed i used.....it still fits the meter of Love Me Do....but is totally unsatisfactory, i think you'll agree!
http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?xyyuvyfj0yz

The only reason my mix sounds "rushed" is that i was lazy and re-used the backing for the ObLaDi track. If i had redone the Love Me Do backing to suit i suppose it would sound more natural, because i would have made it longer to fit the verses.
BTW....i have repitched the vocals to this track too....they were a touch low. The corrected version will appear in the next WTF.

That's quite good considering it's main source. It's not 100% convincing, but it gives a good impression.
Impressionist mashing...i think you invented a new genre! LOL.
I think the Girl parts could be better arranged (with maybe a little more emphasis on YMSK....or maybe that should be a separate mash.) Anyway, good effort.

This one is a little different. The Fab 5 (w Billy Preston) played LMD during the Let It Be sessions. the sessions sound OK, but thesong is incomplete. So I scrambled together the bits and pieces, to produce this mix. Sounds rather inetersting to me, in stereo.

Great Hoedown! The patchwork was done beautifully! They sound loaded on gin and coffee

P.S. BDJ, I've always wanted to suggest this to you for a slight altered title for your podcast site, BDJ's Cellar Full Of Remixes as a hommage to Eppy

Yes you are right in the slower version seems real sluggish  Just a thought, but I guess the tenor in Lennon's voice is needed here, too bad you can't put that magic Spector "wall of sound" on it to kind of get it to ring, or can you

Yeah, that's en excellent suggestion. it was always intended as a reference to good old Brian, this makes it clearer. Thanks ! :P
