So we come to the end of 2008, and it's been fun and challenging having the Song Of The Month "competition".
Should we carry on in 2009 in the same manner?
Or maybe try something different?

Ideas and thoughts below please!

I for one have enjoyed listening to all the challenges every month! Something different is a hard one, since this seems to be the ultimate challenge, but perhaps the monthly challenge needs to also included music style perimeters such as a monthly song selection but done only in jazz, heavy metal, rap, techno, classical, country and western, world music etc ..... all the styles have been touched upon before, but the rule of thumb would be only to use one style per month or another idea would be for posting a basic download mix then each member add a personal touch and then in the end everyone would have build upon the mix.

My new years resolution for 2009 is to learn remixing myself so I can start sharing the fun and the music

I like the styles idea, it may prove to be harder to do though...worth thinking about.

I proposed the "collaborative" mix in the earlier incarnation of BR, but at that time there were no takers. It is fun, i remember doing something similar at the old Tillytown forum a couple of years ago. Useo will remember that. The downside would be that each person would only have a few days to do something...because it would have to be passed on to the next one.

Yes give mixing a try, i'd encourage anyone to try their own mixes, it is great fun, but at the same time it can be frustrating. Be warned also, it's incredibly addictive, and time consuming!

I still like the song of the month idea, but maybe we can pick an album, like Abbey Road, and each month do a song from it, until we have an entire album collection. Something like that? But the song of the month has produced some surprising results!

There is also the "outtfake" "demo" challenge twist as well, it be great to finish off "beatle" sounding versions of "Now and Then" "India" "Junk" "Circles" "Carnival of Light" "Goodbye" "Come And Get It" "Child of Nature" "Step Inside Love" "Hot as Sun" just like the ones done in the past such as the Lomax/Harrison "Sour Milk Sea" mash up :D although the Lennon, McCartney, Harrison vocal melodies would be hard, but those seem essential for a "beatleques" sound  although "Junk" and "Circles" "Not Guilty" were done solo by McCartney, Harrison and Lennon's "Child of Nature" turned into "Jealous Guy" those studio versions may prove to be a good foundation for the outtfakes 8)

I like both of those ideas.
It would be nice to include solo demo's in the demo idea too, one of the first remixes i heard was of someone "finishing" off a John demo or early take, from Walls And Bridges.
The album idea has been done by the "proper" BRG of course, but that's not a problem. Getting enough people here to share the songs around would be more of a problem i think.
Keep the ideas and thoughts coming!

I'm fine with all of the above, as long as we don't become too strict or too resrtiictve. I find it hard to re-mix 'by order'. Once upon a time (or maybe twice) i
I was asked to remix WALH for a project, and I couldn't do it. The SOFTM is just the right trigger to generate ideas for me, without too much of a deadline etc.

In short, I'll basically continue sort of doing what I do now, but any format too spark ideas off is welcome.

Another idea is to have a "mystery" track that would be downloaded, mix, and uploaded to surprise us all 8)

Crea's biweekly would be a bit too quick i think.
I like the mystery idea, the month's chooser could upload a track....and the rest have to do something with it. Nice one.

One a month I think is plenty. Sometimes (like this month), I didn't come up with anything, and bimonthly might be a bit much (at least for me).

that's true, but sometimes some nice ones come later on, and not everyone works as fast as me!

Well it seems as if we're carrying on as usual, that's ok, i just wondered if the majority wanted a change.
I like One Virgin's idea of the mystery track, maybe i'll start another sub-section where members can upload a non-beatles related track for us to do something with...i mean adding beatlesish content, otherwise i probably won't listen! This would be open-ended....no monthly time limit.

I think we should try more Early or Mid Beatles songs for the song of the month challengle. So far there have only been two songs in that period. Help Sessions, Rubber Soul Recording Sessions Reconstructed, and Revolver Sessions have some good isolations to do mixes on them.

I think that's not a bad idea, We have been stuck around 1967/8/9 for a while.

Actually I've decided to continue being a member of the group. I was in anger last night, so I will pick the song of the month after all. I thought I deleted the post above.
