Post subject:  Top Five Worst Beatles Songs
Ok, I know it is all a matter of opinion. I don't like much of the early stuff, and there are a few later ones I can't really stand, so paring it down to five might be hard, so I am cheating and picking 10, but here goes:

1. Anna (Go To Him) - [however, a mashup that MP3J put on an early YCMT almost redeems the song]
2. Baby It's You
3. Devil In Her Heart [I am sure I am in the minority on that one]
4. Mr. Moonlight
5. Words Of Love
6. What Goes On
7. Only A Northern Song
8. That Means A Lot
9. The Long And Winding Road
10. Let It Be [a few too many times hearing the chorus sung]

I think I had no problem being limited to five :wink:

1. She's Leaving Home (Should have Been Sung By Sandi Shaw or Dusty Springfield)
2. You Like Me Too Much (To many words in the catch phrase)
3. I Don't Want To Spoil The Party ( Once again a song to give away, perhaps years later to .... Madness?)
4. Little Child (Too Everly Brothers for their own good)
5. I Want To Tell You (Good piano, solid guitar but lyrics seemed unfinished, like a floor wax jingle)

... as far as "Only A Northern Song" how dare you! :wink: that was one of the most sonic songs in "Yellow Submarine" ! "Your Mother Should Know" that your wrong, in picking that one instead of this clinker :lol:

.... Yes Mother Mary needed more of a Eartha Kitt approach! 8)

I do like one of the isolated versions from somewhere, where it is basically just the base and vocal bits. That one is good.

Mr Moonlight, i do like John's opening wail, and i'm fond of the Hamburg "here i am on my nose" version. But that hammond organ is so badly played it just ruins any chance of liking the B4Sale version. Was it George Martin who played that?....should have waited a few years and draughted in Deep Purple's Jon Lord to play it...or Spencer Davis maybe...that's how to use the hammond effectivly In Rock, (pun Intended).

All Together Now....just a throwaway song, should never have been commited to tape....without a radical overhaul.

I Wanna Be Your Man...useless song played badly.
The Stones version is vastly superior.
Should have been one of the songs that "The Beatles Gave Away"...and only that.

Savoy Truffle...nice tune, good lyrical idea.
Horribly recorded. Those muted saxes?? Saxophones have no place on a Beatles record except on Lady Madonna. Just play the riffs with lots of guitars.
The guitar solo is nicely worked but sounds so thin and weedy....why?
A song about chocolates should be big and fat.

You can't really change the title, so don't record it!
Paul's screams are it's only redeeming feature.

I'm only including songs that were released during the band's lifetime.

"What Goes On" is one of the Beatles' most underrated songs ever.
Great Rockabilly style, suits George down to the ground, super harmonies from John and Paul, and a line that goes...."You didn't even think of me as somone with a name"...WIN.
I'm surprised John didn't sing it.....that rule that Ringo HAD to have a song per album was surely redundant by late 1965.

Only A Northern Song...i can't believe it was omitted from Pepper.
The song is equal in quality to several tracks that were included.

Something fishy here: your top 5 worst songs are not Beatles songs at all, they are songs they covered. Mostly 'Girl Groups' in America....

I guess I never like it due to the fact that it sounded so "Frankie Avalon/Annette Funicello" and I couldn't picture myself dancing to it on the beach! ..... besides I look terrible in a polka dot dress :lol:

Perhaps this may be a answer to your disliking of the tune:
Savoy Truffle : Six saxophonists (three baritone, three tenor) were brought in and were reportedly displeased when George Harrison decided to distort them., or that fact that Macca plays bongos :lol: Harrison wrote the song as a tribute to his friend Eric Clapton's chocolate addiction, and indeed he derived the title and many of the lyrics from a box of Mackintosh Good News chocolates so why was Eric "Horse" Clapton so thin eating all those big fat chocolates :wink: I have notice the muted sounding saxes on every release but the German DDM version, as they seemed very much alive in the same vein as "The Monster Mash" 8)

I'm just not a fan of Horns and Saxophones in Rock music. Sure they're great in certain songs, and in certain circumstances, but in general i'd rather see/hear the guitars.
It's a very American trend to fill out a band's sound with horns and saxes, how many great British bands used them regularly?
Go on...say Wings.....but they really only used them on the America dominated 76 world tour.

true enough. I didn't like many of the songs they covered. If I were to make a list of only songs they wrote, it would be much shorter.

What Goes On to me doesn't fit Rockabilly, but falls squarely into the country category. And I hate country music. I am not fond of the country tunes the Beatles did, though Act Naturally is almost acceptable.

Only a Northern Song I just couldn't handle the squawking horns, cacophonies are not really my thing in that way, the basic tune is fine, and would have been a great tune if not for the horns (in my opinion).
